VoIP for Business

A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system transmits voice and data using an internet connection, rather than a traditional landline.  From 2025, BT plan to switch off the analogue telephone system and all UK phone line users will have to make phone calls over broadband using VoIP systems.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP)

Benefits of VoIP

  • Lower running costs and call charges
  • Flexible, future-proof solution (required from 2025)
  • Consistent and dependable connections
  • No need for on-premises hardware with cloud managed services
  • Upgrades can be managed remotely
  • Calls can be made or taken via a telephone or any internet-enabled device

How does VoIP work?

IP phones installed in your business operate in the same way as a traditional landline phone and include voicemail, call recording, caller ID and other similar features.

The only difference is the IP phone is usually connected by a single Ethernet connection.  Cordless connections are possible with an IP phone that supports Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections.  VoIP calls can also be made using a wide range of internet-ready devices including desktop computers and mobile phones.

Preparing for the analogue telephone switch off in 2025

BT has announced that it plans to switch off all public switched telephone network (PSTN) services by 2025.  The PTSN includes telephone lines and hardware used by traditional analogue telephone services and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) lines are already being phased out.

From 2025, all UK phone line users will make phone calls over broadband using VoIP systems, delivered via a fibre network.

Fibre Broadband

Your internet connection is vital to support your everyday functions, cloud computing and remote working. System I T partner with industry leading suppliers to ensure your connection meets your needs including high speed connectivity solutions such as Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC), Fibre to the premises (FTTP) and Leased Lines.

How can I prepare my business?

If your business relies on the PSTN analogue phone system, it’s important to start planning now and switch to VoIP.

You need to consider the impact on everything that’s connected to your phone lines, such as door entry systems, alarms, CCTV and EPOS machines.
